His campaign didn’t start his service.
Long before asking anyone for a vote, Hugo was walking beside neighbors in their hardest moments. He spent more than a decade helping people move from homelessness toward stability at Hesed House, then helped transform Valley Sheltered Workshop from one program serving 12 people into multiple education and employment pathways supporting more than 70 people each week.
His service continues through disability advocacy, faith formation, food distributions, community outreach, and statewide work to expand employment opportunity. The Kane County Chronicle recognized that record by featuring Hugo in its 2026 Everyday Heroes tribute—not for what he promised to do, but for what he has already done.
